Sorry about the obscure post, but I just remembered the times when I was hypnotized as a child in front of the purple weather channel screens with sometimes-cheesy music. I decided to look on youtube and lo-and-behold, there seemed to be a community of weather channel geeks, even giving answers to what songs were being played in most of the clips. It's not too much fun to look at, other than nostalgia, but sometimes the music's good.
Oh and I got a Droids album and Dirty Space Disco tracks I want to put up, hopefully late tonight, after getting off work. So, it's not always gonna be weird like this hah.

It was inevitable and possibly done before. A compilation of current artists that have been influenced noticeably by the shoegaze spectacle from the mid 1980's to the mid 1990's. The compilation is 1 of what will be 3 installments. This installment is called Never Lose that Feeling, named after a Swervediver song. Amusement Parks on Fire come out of the gates running with a scorching cover with an even more intense version of "You Made Me Realise" by My Bloody Valentine. Another Airiel mentioned here on this quaint blog thanks to their brilliant accurate cover of Swervediver's "Blowin' Cool". Sounds like it could have made it's way onto "Loveless", the music that is. Echo Orbiter tackle and force you to bop and gaze with Medicine's famed basslines on their song "Never Click". Douglas Heart's careful rendition of "Alison" from Slowdive swims with sound and singing. A whirlwind of ambient and shoegaze riffage with a delicate vocal straining to be heard in the background. Finally one of the more beautiful songs I have ever listened to and Andrew Kenny does his best to keep it that way and does with his acoustic guitar and harmonied voice gasping "girl, it's like angel sigh when I see you walking by..." I am really tempted to post the whole album because it is one of the best compilations released this year, in my mind. Never Lose That Feeling Vol. 1 relives the great era of music that swallowed music by storm between one and two decades ago and also introduces many new bands in the genre that want to push it forward that are just paying homage to their forefathers and influences. BMSR are from a great label 70's gymanstics, which I linked to in the picture. This label is growing and it's fanbase is growing because of the fact that musicians from this label love music and love to play with it as much as humanly possible and do so and yet still create a beautiful sound not many, if anyone could imitate. I would love to see BMSR live, but after asking the main man in the band, he said it really wouldn't be logical coming down to New Mexico. Damnit! I wasn't talking about logic! Haha, but I understand. My success and greatness keep blessing BMSR and their label.
Tiga is at it again with another single, why can't he just put out an album already!! He's upped his production skills in this and in this single Isolee has decided the tune. Groovy head nodding electro bass line with Tiga's "rap".
Somewhat unashamedly so, Soulwax is my favorite band of all time. They continue to reinvent themselves and with their "Nite Versions" LP. They decide to reinvent their most recent album. With a more steady repetivie grooviness to the music and less in your face rock. More club friendly? Compute was a standout besides the obvious nite version of Krack which is floating around in cyberspace with appraise. Quoting 20jazzfunkgreats.blogspot.com. Soulwax are the 2nd best band from Belgium.
I don't know too much about The Low Frequency in Stereo. This song tricks in some parts. At the beginning it has bass with acoustic guitar and a nice quiet groove, then a constant riffage of the guitar floods the song with the same intro it began with in the background and slowly builds with more electronic noisy guitar sounds until around one minute into the song at which the song slows down with the sound of an airliner flying and then the indie-noisy guitar begins again. Gaze at your shoes damnit!
Ahh Gravenhurst, I believe I have posted their cover of the Husker Du song "Diane" earlier. They are coming out with a new album through the seemingly refreshed and newly vibrant and active Warp label. The name of the LP "Fires in Distant Buildings". Somewhat louder than past Gravenhurst which, to me, is a welcome change. The Velvet Cell soothes you with Nick Talbot's lyrics and breathy vocals while keeping you awake with constant chugging of guitar chords with an occassional breakdown then it reverts back to the original chugging of the riff.
Why Why? Somebody told me this was one of their records of the year (Elephant Eyelash). Just an overall pretty song, which begins with what sounds like a lo-fi vocalwork and delicate guitar work.
Silver Screen's "The Greatest Story Never Told" is one of my records of the year at this time. It's mix of acoustic dream-pop with wonderful production and shoegaze elements.
Forgive me for lack of writing. Tired and need to walk home and all that jazz. Just wanted to say my thoughts are with all people affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Back again, again. Aerial Pink's "For Kate I Wait" leads of today's post with it's desperate vocals as he sings and regrets and mourns about Kate with very lo-fi yet still sounding produced perfectly, as in, Aerial Pink knew what they wanted this song to sound like. Ween has finally released (new?) material in the form of a b-sides/collection of unused tracks in the form of Shinola Vol. 1. Transitions is a standout track for me with this jazzy composition with Dean and Gene Ween's vocals slithering through the guitar and synth sounds. Ah this La Ritournelle track has been Everywhere!! Well, for good reason also. It's a truly magnificent track, but this remix here by Mr. Dan does what just a remix of this song should be like, I think. Retaining the best parts of the song, which I think are the vocals. Mr. Dan starts the remix with some sort of effected xylophone then the strings to the song come in and then Tellier's magical voice. Then when the main melody comes in, it's delicately played in acoustic guitar, rather than piano (although the trademark piano is not absent from this mix). Finally, after the first round of vocals ends, the drums do come in and repeat. dEUS, arguably Belgian's best band, come back with a new album this late summer: Pocket Revolution (with interesting artwork on the cover). "The Real Sugar" reveals why they might be the best band from Belgium. With a somewhat dreary acoustic riff starting of the song, along with a cello to further deepen the mood. Okay, Ozric Tentacles, I discovered randomly a few weeks ago on soulseek and I must say I am perplexed as to why not many people have heard of them before, or was it just me that had not heard of them. After doing research about them, they have a large back catologue of music. I can't really describe the music, just amazing. It varies so much in each of their songs, you can't really pinpoint which genre they were trying to be classified in, which is probably exactly what they did not want to be (classified into any specific genre). Finally (congrats on making it this far), the Air cover of Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain". It was recorded in Berlin in 1998. It's just a powerful version of the even more pungent original. Supposedly Air going to release a cover of "Maggot Brain" on their version of the "Late Night Tales" cd series. I wonder how much different it will be, if they end up not using this live version and end up recording the song again in a studio. Whew!

I am back, apparently something happened to the folder with all the music for each of my posts so I will probably leave them as broken links and cross them out, but if you want anyone of the songs, do comment or email me and I can see what I can do. My soulseek username is "zrooooookovian". Sorry for the long delay, but just finished moving into a new apt. with no roommates. Whew. Here is some of the music I have been listening to for the past few days. Victor Gama truly deserves to be described as an oddity. The music is all percussion from many plastic objects, but does not sound playful, but serious at times, all the while being experimental and provactive. The Coup. Is it pronounced "Coo" or "Coop". I would say the former. This is almost gfunktified, but the lyrics are powerful and at times blatant and disturbing, but that's what powerful music has to be sometimes. One of my favorite punk songs is this one by the Undertones. I could sure relate to this song when I was younger and even now, just wish I had known about them back then. Punk off! This gem (to me) is from Supertramp and one of their "not-very-well-known" songs. Words Unspoken speaks about certain things that shouldn't be spoken, but just kept in your mind. At least that's my interpretation. Also, it is quite enjoyable to try to sing with it and is just a pretty overall song. Pajo, David Pajo. A nice electro-acoustic one man band I discovered around 2 weeks ago and have yet to tire of yet after tirelessly listening to his music. This one of his is my favorite. The lyrics, the groove, the riff, the music. Quite a sad song, but a fitting one if someone you love had to leave you. Enjoy and thanks for waiting up for me.

First one is thanks to MFR for pointing them out to us and me. Their guitar work is superb and shows in this song, not my favorite of theirs, but very good cover nonetheless. It captures all you need from the song and all with guitars. Great. Ölvis or Orlygur Thor Orlygsson if you can pronounce that. Amazing stuff featuring Sigur Rose members Orri Dyrason and Georg Holm.. This song is great. Showcases the production of the band on this recording. It's from their new album "The Blue Sound".
Robert Wyatt's always been one of my favorites ever since I had discovered him through the tigersushi praise he received. This is a pretty love song sung in spanish. Sonic Youth's more experimental side project is showcased as Ciccone Youth and this song is a goovy masterpiece, as the name may or may not suggest. Finally a wonderfully jazzy upbeat fast guitar/trumpet fest from the wonderful Belgian Jazz musician Marc Moulin. One of the smoothest and fastest guitar solos I have ever heard and loved. Thank god it's F! Take care all.

Will Zdar be the new Prince? Doubtful, but I am sure loving his funky production/sampling in the 3 solo songs I have heard from him so far. I hope you enjoy and are ready to groove. Mew starts the song with a comforting hook and just slowly manipulates it and adds to it. It could hypnotize you to sleep before it gets loud before the end, maybe that's what they were going for, but the production is magnificent in it, before you know it it's a powerful song pounding into your ears. One of my favorite love songs and I felt that it needed more love. If I ever get married, I would want this song to be played during my wedding at some point, if not, I would have it played during the "first dance". Just a purdiful song. Well this might be a guilty pleasure, but this song by Rave Signal seems to me to be one of the few songs that would be played at a rave that I actually would want to make a fool of myself to (meaning dance). Secret Machines cover a song from one of my favorite genres, Kraut Rock. It's a song by one of the lesser know yet more premiere bands in the genre. My ears are slowly opening up to Secret Machines and I hope your ears are slowly opening up to this blog. Sorry for the blinding text and colors for the past few weeks.

It was hard to choose one song from the oft remixed Belgian band Telex, but I decided on this one mainly because their main single most of you probably already have (including remixes): Moskow Diskow. Their album "Looking For Saint Tropez" features addictive beating electronics and many refrences to classic 50's rock from the US, probably showing their love for that era of music, simple and all about the riffs and beats and rock and roll!! This one is a "cover", I guess you could say, of the "Twist!" Finland producer had a remix lp released recently and one of the stronger tracks from it is remixed by Funckarma. Melding "intelligent" dance music with groove that flows through the whole abstract-beat-fest. Lo-Fi sounds embrace this song and the lyrics embrace the lo-fi-ness. Enjoy. One of the better remixers around attempts to remix one of the better electronic acts around and succeeds. I meant to post this last track by The Pine last time, but forgot, but it's a quiet song at first, but the vocals are what get me by loosely lassoing the whole song together messily as I am sure the musicians wanted. Sounds like an unnerving desperate singing messing with the messy almost-shoe gazey guitar work.
